Farm Drain Reinforcement: Erosion Control, Stabilization
Farm field drainage concentrates as it falls toward a regulated drain in Hancock County, IN. As the slope gradient of the land increases, the erosive forces of the concentrated water exceed the shear strength of the erodible soils. The combined effect of concentrated drainage and the output of the storm sewer outfall results in the formation of gullies in the farm field, voids around the culvert, and sedimentation in the regulated drain. The gullies and voids were repaired by first placing Mirafi Filter Weave 402 Filtration Geotextile against the eroded vertical soil faces. Next site soils were placed and compacted with four layers of Mirafi 5XT Geogrid. Gabions and Rip Rap were then placed to armor the face of the reinforced earthen structures. North American Green Vmax C-350 permanent turf reinforcement mats were placed over seeded soils around the perimeter of the soil and armor structures.
